The Impact of Cartoon Translation on The Formation of The Culture of The Algerian Child "Sally" as a Model.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of translating animated cartoons on shaping the cultural awareness of Algerian children, using the Japanese animated series Sally as a case study. It explores how dubbing and translation transfer linguistic, social, and cultural values from the source culture to the target audience, influencing children's perceptions, behaviors, and identities. The study highlights the role of audiovisual translation as more than a linguistic process, emphasizing its contribution to cultural mediation and value transmission. By analyzing the translated version of Sally, the paper discusses the extent to which translated cartoons preserve, adapt, or transform cultural elements to suit the Algerian context. The findings underline the importance of culturally sensitive translation in balancing entertainment with educational and identity-building objectives for young audiences.
