The Status of Reason in the Thought of Abdelkader Chereiet

Abstract

This study examines the status of reason in the thought of Abdallah Cheriet, one of the leading Algerian philosophers who contributed significantly to the development of contemporary Arab philosophy. It analyzes his conception of reason as a critical instrument for understanding reality, renewing philosophical inquiry, and addressing the intellectual and cultural challenges facing Arab societies. The paper explores the philosophical foundations of his rational vision, highlighting the relationship between reason, heritage, and modernity, as well as his efforts to reconcile authenticity with openness to universal human thought. By adopting an analytical and descriptive approach, the study demonstrates that Cheriet viewed reason as the cornerstone of intellectual progress and civilizational renewal, advocating a balanced philosophy that combines critical reflection with cultural identity.
